A British couple vacationing in Almería, Spain, was found severely burned and semi-conscious in a ravine after being caught in the region’s devastating bushfires. They are believed to have been hiking when the blaze engulfed the area.
Rescue Amidst Devastation
Officers from the Guardia Civil discovered the couple while searching for survivors near Bedar, one of the most heavily impacted communities. The couple suffered burns covering 40% of their bodies and were airlifted to an intensive care unit within two hours of their discovery.
A Spreading Tragedy
The Almería wildfire has claimed 12 lives and incinerated over 14,800 acres (6,000 hectares). At least 23 people remain unaccounted for, and the majority of the confirmed fatalities are believed to be British and Belgian nationals, alongside one Spanish citizen. The incident underscores the extreme dangers posed by the ongoing wildfires in the region.
